Gaganyaan Test Flight Delayed: Launch Halted 5 Seconds Prior Over Anomaly

New Delhi: The highly anticipated first test for the Gaganyaan human space flight mission faced an unexpected delay just moments before its scheduled launch. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has confirmed that the engine ignition did not occur as planned due to an anomaly in the system. However, ISRO Chairman S Somanath emphasized that the spacecraft remains secure.

"The ground support computer identified an anomaly during the launch sequence, prompting the hold," Somanath clarified from the Mission Control Center. "We are working diligently to pinpoint the root cause of the issue."

The test vehicle, named D1 mission, had initially aimed for an 8 am lift-off, later revised to 8:45 am. Unfortunately, a mere 5 seconds before the launch, the countdown abruptly halted, leaving spectators and officials alike in suspense. However, ISRO has promptly addressed the situation, expressing their determination to proceed with the launch at 10 am.

The preliminary test is a critical precursor to the ambitious Gaganyaan program, designed to ferry astronauts to a Low Earth Orbit approximately 400 kilometers above the planet's surface for a duration of three days before returning them safely to Earth.

Initial assessments primarily focus on the efficacy of the crew escape system, ensuring its capability to swiftly evacuate astronauts in the event of emergencies. Subsequent missions will involve a robot's journey into outer space before culminating in the highly anticipated manned mission.
